This project aims to create archetypes of the neighborhood based on the interactions taking place, people passing by, people organizing, activating, creating this quarter of Nieuw-West. We would like to map these connections, and reflect on physical landscapes, streets, shopping centers and many other commons and commonalities. These reflections will be in the format of drawings, illustrations, photography or collages, and with the designed material we would like to think along game logics, how playful togetherness could create connection, instead of ongoing isolation, and segregation in our neighborhood. Gamification of these stereotypes that we all see, reflect, gossip, or curse while we are walking around in our streets, will open new ways of thinking our interactions. As we navigate within social and cultural spaces, that are going through transformation with the political changes, financial agendas, conflicts and negotiations, game logics, and playful methodologies are more necessary to go out of stuck/ness and remember the possibility of alternative ways of thinking and recognizing each other.
Who We’re Looking For
We seek visual artists, illustrators, designers, card game developers, world builders, rule makers, storytellers, collage makers, and photographers who live in and are engaged with the Nieuw West neighbourhood.
The aim is to organize gatherings, activities, and workshops that enable imaginations and playful encounters within Nieuw-West, in different locations, streets and community centers but based in Lola Lieven. Participants will create drawings, illustrations, and collages that ultimately map organizational structures, rules, logics, or mechanics of the game. Initially we will design a collective cards, game deck that we could all play with on different occasions, with different people of the neighborhood. These cards will be also a publication of Lola Lieven, that can be used, purchased in the long term. And the cards we will design also will be printed as postcards, to mail to the neighbors of yours, or as love letters.
We are seeking facilitators who will receive a โฌ1,200 fee covering event organization, workshops, research, and facilitation. An additional budget is available for material costs.
