Playfight club gives space for adults to experiment with physical playfulness and the art of reading and communicating through the body. In this workshop/play session, we will explore nonverbal communication of boundaries by borrowing from martial arts movements and signals (tapping out, taking a knee) and creating our own.
We will start with exercises working towards non-verbal communication, do some physical warm ups, and introduce some grappling technique to get you started with. Finally we will enter the arena and find out what inner child/animal/energy has been waiting to be unleashed.
This session is all about getting acquainted with your physical and mental boundaries, and learning when to maintain them and when you can stretch them.
IMPORTANT NOTES
-Please bring comfortable clothing to move around in!
-Tip: for a more comfortable experience, bring knee pads and slippers
-While we will go through various exercises to prepare us for playfighting, the main form used in this playfight session is essentially wrestling.
-When signing up, please note down any injuries or other physical limitations to keep in mind. Playfighting can be adapted for any body, even if it means you’re thumb wrestling, wrestling with feet, or even psychologically with your eyes. Let’s experiment!
-This is a consent-based workshop. There’s no need to do anything you’re not comfortable with, and there is space to negotiate desires and intentions. That being said, this is also a workshop where you are encouraged to test the limits of your comfort zones.
