Shibari is the term generally used to define Japanese rope bondage. Although it has many similarities to Western bondage (the B of BDSM), Shibari is centred around the dynamic between partners and creates a scene of play where ropes are leading the player. The practice is rooted in eroticism but evolved outside Japan apart from sexual also to artistic practices and community building.Β
The classes are designed for all levels but especially for beginners to give a point of entry and start the journey with ropes. They will give everyone the tools to get started in their practice safely, no matter which role they prefer to take on, tying or getting tied; switching is permitted and encouraged.
Tolerance, open-mindedness, and empathy are critical values of this class. As long as you are committed to Shibari, it is a tool to connect different bodies, souls, experiences, and generations from oldest to youngest. We do not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, or sexism in the space of Lola Lieven.Β
We facilitate cross-cultural and transpersonal spaces. Being a neighbourhood venue, we stand for our streets and cohabitants on a small scale. Both LGBTQI+ racialised people and our neighbours are at the centre. We are trained to hold these spaces, and in each class there will be one spaceholding person. We can also provide a 20% discount to our community if they cannot pay the total price of the classes. You can write us for the discount code: aysenur@lolalieven.nl
The event lasts 3 hours of which 2 hours are dedicated to class and 1 hour to free tying, a so-called βrope-jamβ where one can practise, tie for fun and socialise and mix with other participants. The topics of the class are different every month and will be announced beforehand.
The class is given in English, but Dutch translation is possible
Bring your own ropes if you have some, but ropes are available to borrow or for purchase (if in stock)
Bio of the teacher: Eileen aka Asiana is a kinky switch with a passion for Japanese rope bondage (shibari). Sheβs the founder of RopeLounge and has been teaching shibari for over 10 years in Amsterdam. The aesthetics and Japanese approach to tying have a great appeal to her. Generally she likes the more challenging way of tying and enjoys seeing her partners suffer in her ropes. From an educational point of view she likes to focus both on the technical part for safety reasons and the playful part for fun.
